Hyatt Celebrates Its Fourth Annual Month of Community Service

Today is April 1 and there is only on thing on the minds of Hyatt associates around the world. No, we’re not talking about April Fool’s Day – instead, today marks the kick-off of our fourth annual Month of Community Service!

In case you’re not familiar, Hyatt’s Month of Community Service is a time when associates at Hyatt hotels and resorts around the world all rally together to volunteer and give back to the communities they call home.

In its fourth year, we are more focused than ever on making our local communities places where our associates are proud to work, where guests want to visit, where neighbors want to live and where hotel owners want to invest. This very exciting month ladders up to our corporate responsibility platform, Hyatt Thrive, which focuses on the four pillars we believe are crucial to thriving communities: environmental sustainability, economic development and investment, education and personal advancement and health and wellness.

Last April, our associates around the world demonstrated their commitment to care for our communities – check out the fantastic work that was done!

This year, we are so excited to see the great work that our hotels around the world will do. While we know they volunteer and make positive contributions all year long, we are excited to rally together to make a significant worldwide impact.

Here at the corporate office, we’ll be working with City Year and our Chicago area hotels to transform two schools in the Logan Square neighborhood on April 18. With our support, we will help to improve the learning environment for nearly 1,800 students from Pre-K to 12th grade – all in one day!

As I get into the volunteer spirit to energize our associates, I have been asking what volunteering with Hyatt means to them. I am inspired and encouraged by their responses, and I’ve included some of those below.

Make sure to check back here on Keyed Into Hyatt all month long to see some of the great work being done around the world.

“Hyatt’s commitment to community service is an excellent expression of our higher purpose of care. It is incumbent on us to focus our care and concern not only inwardly, but outwardly toward the communities that we call home. Volunteering side-by-side with Hyatt colleagues is a great way to engage with one another outside of the confines of our day-to-day jobs. We feel a sense of accomplishment as we work together and see the fruits of our labors. But most of all, it’s incredibly fun.” - Rena Reiss, General Counsel

“I love seeing photographs of Hyatt colleagues from around the world participating in our month of community service. Our collective contributions make me very proud. Volunteering provides a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community. It is great spending time with other people who are energized by making a difference.”  -Robb Webb, Chief Human Resources Officer

“We can all get so busy, and this month reminds us just how important it is to give back and think of others. Volunteering is very special to me and I enjoy it even more when its with my Hyatt colleagues and friends, as well as with my family. My son joined me last year for our volunteer day here in Chicago, and we still have such fond memories from that experience. I can’t wait for him to join us again on April 18 to make a real difference for other students just like him.” - John Wallis, Global Head of Marketing and Brand Strategy

“Simply put, volunteering with Hyatt just makes me happy. It gives me the opportunity to team up with my talented and wonderful colleagues that I don’t have the opportunity to work with everyday. I am so inspired by everyone’s enthusiasm, and I know that the happiness we all feel when we team up together to give back is immeasurable.”  - Rakesh Sarna, Group President, Americas
