We began a journey two years ago at the start of a revolution in the food industry. With a greater focus on healthy options, transparency and accountability - and with nearly 24 million meals served annually in our properties around the world - we considered the effects our food and beverage decisions have on the environment and the health of our guests and associates. Driven by insights and in-depth research, we made a commitment to take Hyatt Food and Beverage in a new direction.
The result of that research is our new global food and beverage philosophy: Food. Thoughtfully Sourced. Carefully Served. What does it mean exactly? To us, it's a commitment to food and beverages that are good for our people, our planet and our communities. And we're proud to be the first hotel in the industry to make a commitment of this kind.
Our amazing chefs and Food and Beverage leaders tell it best in the video below:
Food. Thoughtfully Sourced. Carefully Served. goes hand-in-hand with the heath and wellness pillar of Hyatt Thrive, our corporate social responsibility platform designed to enable thriving communities. Our new food and beverage philosophy is led by three key pillars of its own, serving as guiding principles and measurement of our success: healthy people, healthy planet and healthy communities. Guests will see these pillars at work in everything that we do in food and beverage globally - from planning to everyday experiences to banquets.
This isn't entirely new for Hyatt, as you may have seen some of the first steps of this new approach in 2011. Last year, we implemented cage-free eggs, Meyer's all natural beef, worked with our hotels to support sustainable seafood, and made a commitment to The Partnership for a Healthier America. Additionally, our chefs have incorporated newfound local ingredients, we changed menus for event planners with seasonally influenced, regional items, and we even organized some Farmer's markets.
Moving forward, we will further educate our associates so that they can share Food. Thoughtfully Sourced, Carefully Served with guests and in their local communities. We will expand our practices, revise our menus, and continue to support our local communities through education, fund-raising and volunteer efforts - all centered on health and wellness.
We look forward to sharing our successes along the way and hearing your feedback. Bon appétit!
