Already this month, you've met a VIP Ambassador and Mascot Handler. Next up, we're sharing another little-known hotel job that requires a savvy hand with nature: Water Features Director! And what better place for water appreciation than the desert?

Meet Joe Miller, who got his start at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch as a member of the build crew in 1985. Twenty-seven years later, he's still with us, now overseeing the care and maintenance of the more than one million gallons of water that make up the property's leisure activities and landscaping.

Did you know the resort has 10 pools? Joe's nearly three-acre water playground includes spots for swimming laps, pool volleyball, pool basketball, a three-story waterslide, an adults-only pool, and a shallow beach pool!

Joe and his team keep the property's water moving and clean, sometimes at 2 in the morning so the pools are ready for early-morning swimmers. They handle it all, from testing the water (as an additional measure of protection behind the automated balance system), to cleaning filters to stocking supplies.

"I feel a responsibility for this property, its changes, and its growth into all it is for the many guest that return year after year," Joe said.
