Rick Ingersoll of "Frugal Travel Guy" blog

One of my most memorable trips using my Hyatt Gold Passport points was a stay with my wife at one of our favorite Hyatt hotels, Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa. During our peaceful, but adventurous trip, we explored the island, relaxed at the pool and even had the chance to watch whales breaching from the beach - a site I'll never forget!

We were able to go on this trip because we each applied for the Chase Hyatt credit card and used the four free nights (two nights each) to stay there. We enjoyed our time on the island so much that we're going back there again this year!

Overall, to be a "Point Pro" I would say:

  • Follow the promotions and use that Hyatt credit card. We were able to each earn two free nights through just using our card for the first time.
  • Schedule trips around your lifestyle. Take trips around the available time you have off. Sometimes you're only able to take short breaks and having Hyatt points makes quick getaways much easier.
  • Reach out. If you're not a frequent traveler, it never hurts to email customer service and ask about possible status match opportunities. Hyatt Diamond status is amazing and the suite upgrades are remarkable. Of course, if you are on the road enough, you already know the value of top tier status with Hyatt.
