Hyatt Regency Century Plaza has seen it all. Since opening on June 1, 1966 and debuting as the "World's Most Beautiful Hotel" it's had its fair share of moments in the spotlight by playing host to celebs, business professionals, political figures and world leaders.

This month, the hotel celebrated its 45th anniversary (also known as its sapphire anniversary) – and in honor of this special occasion, we've dug up some of the hotel's most interesting facts and best memories to share with all of you.

  • Hyatt Regency Century Plaza was built on the site of the 20th Century Fox movie ranch
  • In 1969, President Nixon hosted a "Dinner of the Century" at the hotel to honor the Apollo 11 astronauts, and President Reagan spent so much time at Century Plaza that it was dubbed "The Western White House."€
  • Hyatt Regency Century Plaza was the host hotel for Obama's winning presidential election night
  • The ballroom has been home to several A-list celeb performances, including legends like The Supremes, Bob Hope, Elton John, and Joan Jett.
  • Leo Vigil, a service waiter, has been with the hotel since its opening in 1966.

In honor of its anniversary, Hyatt Regency Century Plaza has been offering a special room rate of $145 this month, which will be offered this weekend, too. Additionally, the Lobby Court & Patio are offering sapphire-inspired cocktails and Breeze restaurant is offering a 1960's inspired menu with all items at $20 or less.

Congratulations to Hyatt Regency Century Plaza – here's to another 45 years!
