Momentum for our Global Month of Community Service continued right through the end of the month! And the efforts didn't stop there - nearly 3,500 of you took the Commit to Thrive pledge to help Hyatt donate books to kids in need. In honor of all of you who #commit2thrive, Hyatt is moving ahead with donating all 35,000 books. Partnering with two great NGOs, We Give Books and Room to Read, the books will be distributed in the US, India and Cambodia.
From Earth Day environmental workshops to revitalizing local schools, we are excited to share a sample of the events that took place since last time we checked in on our month of service.
Bandung, Indonesia: Hyatt Regency Bandung volunteered with their longtime nonprofit partner and Hyatt Community Grant winner, SD Islam Nurul Iman, to assist the organization with renovating a local school's classrooms, bathrooms, gate and playground. SD Islam Nurul Iman operates this school in Cimahi region of Bandung and serves impoverished families.
Chennai, India: At Hyatt Regency Chennai, associates participated in a blood donation drive while others volunteered with a local sea turtle conservation group to help with their efforts to conserve and create awareness about the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtle. The hotel also teamed up with the Samarpan Foundation to help fill recycled plastic bottles from the hotel with sand. These bottles will then be repurposed to actually build schools in underprivileged villages. This new, innovative technique was created by the nonprofit to build school walls using recycled materials.
Chicago, Illinois: Hyatt associates, family, friends and Gold Passport Members from the Corporate Office and Chicago-area hotels participated in a transformational day of service alongside Starbucks volunteers to help revitalize a school, a park and four resident homes in a low-income neighborhood.
Delhi, India: In honor of Earth Day, the team at Hyatt Regency Delhi kept the momentum going by planting new trees in their community.
Denver, Colorado: Hyatt hotels in Denver partnered with Community Health Charities and the March of Dimes to prepare for their upcoming event. Hosting the project on property, more than fifty volunteers participated between shifts to stuff participant goodie bags and get last minute details ready for the big day.
Dushanbe, Tajikistan: In celebration of Earth Day, the team at Hyatt Regency Dushanbe invited 50 students with disabilities to join them for a lake clean-up project and eco-awareness activity.
Huntington Beach, California: The energetic team at Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach participated in a beach clean-up along the ocean to celebrate Earth Day.
Kauai, Hawaii: Grand Hyatt Kauai volunteers teamed up with the Humane Society - painting walls, washing pets and walking our four-legged friends.
Maldives: The eco-friendly Park Hyatt Maldives hosted an environmental awareness workshop for local community members in honor of Earth Day.
Sao Paulo, Brazil: Our friends at Grand Hyatt Sao Paulo participated in a park clean up.
Warsaw, Poland: Hyatt Regency Warsaw light up their hotel blue for autism in support of the Synapsis Foundation and also hosted a healthy cooking class for elementary students.
While April may be over, our commitment to the places we call home lives on year-round. Check back for more stories of how our associates are leading the charge in making a difference in their local communities.
