For Your Sweet Tooth: Grand Hyatt New York’s Artisanal Chocolate Line

Anyone who knows me knows there isn’t a piece of chocolate that can pass me unnoticed. So I’m especially excited about the new addition to Grand Hyatt New York’s Market – handmade truffles from the hotel’s new artisanal chocolate line. The truffles aren’t only a sight to see, with rich colors and bold designs reminiscent of my favorite Chihuly glass, but they’re also delicious! There are five delectable flavors; passion fruit, citrus, gianduja & white truffles, coffee and dulce de leche.

They're grab-and-go ready!

The line, designed and handmade by the hotel’s Executive Pastry Chef Gonzalo Jimenez also includes luxe chocolate bars. The flavors and textures were carefully paired – the dark chocolate with granola, the milk chocolate with cereal and candied oranges and the white chocolate with crunchy chocolate pearls and dried cherries. These are no convenience store candy bars, my friends!

Grand Hyatt New York’s Market now offers chocolate truffles.

So how does a hotel create these intricate sweets? An incredibly talented Executive Pastry Chef!  In between his duties at the hotel’s restaurant, New York Central, and his ongoing work for the hotel’s daily meetings and events, Chef Jimenez finds the time to create each truffle and each chocolate bar – from concept to creation to packaging. All by hand and all by himself; making 570 pieces for the line per week. Chef Jimenez says he enjoys working with this medium because it can be transformed into true pieces of art. “I’ve always thought of chocolate as more than just a dessert or ingredient,” he said. “I believe it’s an experience with each flavor and texture delivering a new surprise and emotion. I’m flattered to have been entrusted with this endeavor and even more thrilled to share my passion for handcrafted chocolates with our international guests and travelers.”

Grand Hyatt New York  recently welcomed some of NYC’s top travel, food and lifestyle media to a cocktail reception to celebrate the launch of the line.  Those in attendance included editors and bloggers from outlets including Travel + Leisure, Reuter’s, BizBash, The Food Network Blog, Latina and Dessert Professional. The room buzzed with excitement over the designs, flavors and the truly talented Chef Jimenez.

If you’re on the run, stop by and pick some up just in time for Valentine’s Day!
