Tom Pritzker Honored at Travel + Leisure Design Awards

Every year, Travel + Leisure scouts out the best and most innovative designs and architectural work for its annual Design Awards. As they say, innovative design makes travel better, and we couldn’t agree more. In its tenth year, a distinguished panel of expert judges pick everything from the best museums, restaurants and hotels to travel luggage, watches and cameras – all created and designed to make travel more enjoyable.

Travel + Leisure also selects an annual Design Champion, and we couldn’t be more excited that the publication’s pick for this year was Hyatt’s Executive Chairman, Tom Pritzker. For Travel + Leisure, they said the decision to name Tom Pritzker as the Design Champion was an easy one. He is the leader of a family that has long played a critical role in both travel and design – especially when Hyatt opened Hyatt Regency Atlanta in 1967 with its light-filled atrium that inspired design for future Hyatt hotels and a design that Tom says “changed the experience of our guests and our employees.”

Excellent design and architecture are key points of focus for Hyatt, which can be seen in so many hotels, including the newly opened Andaz Maui at Wailea, Andaz Papagayo in Costa Rica, and the highly anticipated Park Hyatt New York, which will open this year and is being designed by renowned Pritzker Prize winner Christian De Portzamparc.

Tom Pritzker was honored at a reception and dinner hosted by Travel + Leisure last week, surrounded by friends, family (including his Hyatt family!), as well as industry movers and shakers.

A huge congratulations to Tom for this fantastic recognition!
